001. The Pecos Crown
A harsh western desert nation built on mining, rail freight, military power, and controlled labor. Demi-humans are openly classified by usefulness and exploited throughout its industries, making the Crown one of Vistall’s most aggressively human-controlled realms.
002. Mesquite Reach
A sprawling southern borderland of scrub plains, dust storms, fortified towns, smuggling routes, and unstable local authority. Human control remains dominant, but weak enforcement has turned the Reach into a dangerous crossroads for traffickers, fugitives, mercenaries, and sanctuary networks.
003. San Aurelo
The polished central power of Vistall, known for glass cities, advanced technology, strict biometric governance, and its obsession with human biological purity. Demi-humans have no recognized civic personhood and may exist legally only under controlled classifications, making San Aurelo beautiful, efficient, and deeply oppressive.
004. Brazoria Vale
A wealthy riverland nation of agricultural estates, biotech centers, medical campuses, and carefully managed green cities. Brazoria presents its treatment of demi-humans as science and stewardship while using custody law, bloodline certification, and biological management to restrict their freedom.
005. Veyrhalden
A stormbound coastal and island realm of black-water ports, sea caves, hidden harbors, ancient ruins, and fiercely independent communities. Demi-humans hold political power here, and Veyrhalden is infamous among human governments for sheltering fugitives and refusing extradition demands.
006. Thornwyck
A fortified eastern mountain nation built around sanctuary towns, guarded passes, formal courts, and powerful anti-trafficking defenses. Thornwyck recognizes demi-humans as full persons and has become one of the continent’s strongest organized defenders of demi-human sovereignty.
007. Eirwold
A vast northern forest realm of hidden settlements, clan territories, ancient groves, and deliberately unmapped wilderness. Governed through a mixture of demi-human sovereignty and old feral law, Eirwold rejects centralized identity systems and remains the part of Vistall the Purity Grid cannot tame.

  •   sexuality    STRAIGHT

  •   origin    EIRROOT

  •   location    MOONFEN

  •   rank    ALPHA

personality   Kai is quiet, disciplined, and difficult to rattle. He rarely wastes words, preferring to observe first and act only when necessary. Protective without being controlling, he believes leadership means making certain everyone under his care still has the freedom to choose their own path. His trust is difficult to earn, but once given, it is nearly impossible to shake. Around family, the intimidating Alpha occasionally reveals a dry sense of humor and a surprisingly patient softness.

*❛ ⸻⸻

Kai Kurohana survived captivity long enough to learn that freedom means very little unless it can be protected. Quiet, watchful, and relentlessly practical, he now serves as Moonfen's Alpha, building safety with his own hands and standing between his family and anything foolish enough to threaten them.

  •   languages    COMMON / EIRWOOD SIGN

  •   ethnicity    EIRWOLD NORTHERNER

appearance   Tall and powerfully built, Kai carries the physical evidence of a life spent surviving difficult places. His black wolf ears and heavy tail match his long black hair, while violet eyes remain alert even when his expression is neutral. Old scars cross his skin, none hidden or treated as decoration. His clothing favors dark, practical layers, weathered leather, belts, pouches, gloves, and heavy boots built for the forest rather than fashion. He looks less like someone trying to appear dangerous and more like someone who simply is.

brief biography

Kai Kurohana was born in Eirwold, but very little of his early life belonged to him. Enslaved while young, he spent years learning the habits of captors, the routes people used when they did not want to be seen, and the thousand small skills required to survive when survival itself was an act of defiance. He learned to track without leaving signs, find food where others saw nothing, treat wounds with whatever grew nearby, and wait until escape was possible rather than merely desperate. When freedom finally came, Kai carried the knowledge of bondage with him, but refused to let it become the only thing that defined him.Moonfen became the first place Kai chose for himself. Hidden beneath Eirwood’s northern forest canopy, the settlement offered something he had never been allowed before: a home built around choice. Kai became one of its hunters, foragers, builders, and protectors, helping establish safe routes through the forest and quietly supporting others escaping the same systems he had survived. Over time, people began looking to him for more than survival advice. Kai never sought authority for its own sake, but his consistency, restraint, and willingness to stand between danger and everyone else eventually made him Moonfen’s Alpha.Today, Kai’s life is centered on the family and community he helped build. Naomi stands beside him as Moonfen’s Luna, while their children, Mizu, Kri, and Mina, have grown into people with lives and convictions entirely their own. That matters deeply to him. Kai does not believe protection means possession, nor leadership obedience. He protects Moonfen so its people can choose who they become. Quiet, scarred, and difficult to intimidate, he remains a man who remembers every chain placed on him and measures his success by how few the next generation will ever have to wear.

BONDS
ㅤ  Naomi Kurohana  ㅤMateView ProfileKai’s partner, equal, and the person most capable of calling him on his nonsense without flinching. Naomi shares his fierce devotion to Moonfen and their family, but tempers his severity with patience, warmth, and a gentler hand. He trusts her judgment completely, even when she tells him something he does not particularly want to hear.
ㅤ  Mizu Kurohana  ㅤSonView ProfileKai sees too much of himself in Mizu sometimes, especially the watchfulness, restraint, and instinct to carry responsibility alone. He is deeply proud of the man his son became, but quietly worries that Mizu inherited his habit of treating pain like another task to finish. Their affection is understated, built more through presence, shared work, and mutual trust than open sentiment.
ㅤ  Kri Kurohana  ㅤSonView ProfileKri is the child most likely to test Kai’s ability to remain completely expressionless. Stylish, sharp-tongued, creative, and unapologetically himself, Kri represents exactly the kind of freedom Kai wanted his children to possess. Kai may not always understand his choices, but he defends Kri’s right to make them with absolute conviction.
ㅤ  Mina Kurohana  ㅤDaughterView ProfileMina’s curiosity and quiet intelligence have always earned Kai’s attention. He respects the care she puts into teaching, art, and understanding the world, and he has never mistaken her gentleness for weakness. Around Mina, Kai tends to become subtly softer, listening longer than he speaks and somehow always remembering what she mentioned needing three weeks ago.

  •   sexuality    STRAIGHT

  •   origin    EIRWOLD

  •   location    MOONFEN

  •   job(s)    HERBALIST / FORAGER / SURVIVAL INSTRUCTOR

personality   Naomi is warm, observant, and quietly formidable. She speaks gently even when issuing a warning, rarely wastes anger, and prefers giving people the opportunity to correct themselves before intervening. Her compassion is practical rather than fragile; she will bandage a wound, make tea, listen patiently, and then explain exactly which terrible decision caused the problem. Fiercely protective of her family and Moonfen, Naomi believes care should prepare people to stand on their own rather than make them dependent upon her.

*❛ ⸻⸻

Naomi Kurohana is Moonfen’s Luna, though her authority has never depended on volume. A skilled herbalist, tracker, and survival instructor, she tends wounds, teaches the young, remembers what everyone forgot to pack, and possesses the deeply inconvenient ability to know when someone is lying to her.

  •   scars    MINOR

  •   languages    COMMON / EIRWOOD SIGN

appearance   Naomi has a graceful, softly athletic build and an easy presence that makes her seem approachable even when she is assessing everything around her. Her long dark hair carries violet and deep green tones, framing bright green eyes and dark wolf ears, while her full tail shares the same subtle coloring. She favors layered, practical clothing in black, plum, muted green, and worn leather, often decorated with restrained floral embroidery. Pouches, herbs, charms, gloves, and small tools are almost always somewhere on her person.

brief biography

Naomi Kurohana was born in Eirwold and grew into someone who understood the forest as both shelter and teacher. She learned early how to read weather in the movement of leaves, recognize useful plants by scent, follow tracks through difficult ground, and turn whatever could be gathered into food, medicine, or something worth keeping. Those skills eventually brought her to Moonfen, where survival demanded more than strength. It required patience, cooperation, and people willing to teach what they knew rather than hoard it.Beside Kai, Naomi helped shape Moonfen into a community rather than simply a hiding place. While Kai became its Alpha, Naomi naturally settled into the role of Luna, trusted not because of ceremony but because people repeatedly found themselves turning to her when they were hurt, frightened, uncertain, or simply in need of practical advice. She became one of Moonfen’s most experienced herbalists and foragers, passing her knowledge to younger generations and teaching them how to move through the forest without fearing it. Her lessons emphasize preparation, self-reliance, restraint, and the understanding that surviving alone is not the same thing as living freely.Naomi and Kai raised Mizu, Kri, and Mina within the life they had helped create, giving each of them room to become very different people. Motherhood never replaced Naomi’s identity, but it sharpened the principles she already lived by: protect without smothering, teach without controlling, and never mistake gentleness for weakness. Today, she remains one of Moonfen’s quiet foundations, tending herbs, repairing what can be repaired, remembering what everyone else overlooks, and offering warmth until warmth is no longer appropriate. When that happens, even Kai knows to pay attention.

BONDS
ㅤ  Kai Kurohana  ㅤMateView ProfileKai is Naomi’s partner, equal, and the person she trusts most completely. She understands the silences other people find intimidating, knows exactly when he is worried despite pretending otherwise, and has no hesitation whatsoever about telling the Alpha when he is being ridiculous. Their relationship is built on shared history, mutual respect, and the quiet certainty that neither of them needs to control the other to remain fiercely devoted.
ㅤ  Mizu Kurohana  ㅤSonView ProfileNaomi knows Mizu inherited far too much of his father’s habit of carrying problems alone. She gives him room to make his own choices, but remains relentlessly attentive to the things he does not say, especially when exhaustion or responsibility begins eating at him. Her affection is warm but never infantilizing; Mizu may be grown, but Naomi will still put food in front of him and expect him to eat it.
ㅤ  Kri Kurohana  ㅤSonView ProfileKri’s confidence, creativity, and refusal to make himself smaller delight Naomi far more than she usually admits. She happily encourages his fashion, artistry, and experimentation, and is often one of the first people shown whatever he is currently creating. Naomi also possesses the dangerous maternal ability to recognize when all that sass is covering genuine hurt, something Kri has discovered is extremely difficult to bluff his way around.
ㅤ  Mina Kurohana  ㅤDaughterView ProfileNaomi and Mina share an easy, thoughtful closeness built around curiosity, teaching, and creating things with care. She deeply respects Mina’s intelligence and the patience she brings to both art and education, never treating her gentleness as something that requires protecting from the world. Naomi is immensely proud of the woman Mina has become and will absolutely listen to an enthusiastic explanation of a project for as long as Mina wants to give one.

Mizu Kurohana

  •   sexuality    STRAIGHT

  •   origin    EIRWOLD

  •   location    MOONFEN

  •   job(s)     HUNTER

personality   Mizu is quiet, vigilant, and intensely responsible. He rarely speaks without purpose and has a habit of observing a room before fully settling into it, automatically tracking exits, strangers, and anything that feels out of place. His emotions run deeper than his expression usually reveals, particularly where family is concerned. Protective to a fault, Mizu will take on far more than he should before admitting he needs help. Beneath the restraint is a patient, surprisingly gentle man whose affection tends to appear through actions rather than declarations.

*❛ ⸻⸻

Mizu Kurohana is one of Moonfen’s primary hunters, responsible for helping keep the settlement supplied while ranging the surrounding forest for game, predators, unfamiliar tracks, and signs of danger. Quiet, hyper-aware, and relentlessly dependable, he notices what changes before most people realize anything has.

  •   eyes    VIOLET

  •   hair    BLACK

  •   scars    FACIAL / EXTENSIVE

  •   languages    COMMON / EIRWOOD SIGN

  •   ethnicity    EIRWOLD NORTHERN

appearance   Mizu is tall and broad-shouldered, with a powerful build shaped by physical work rather than display. Long black hair, black wolf ears, and a thick dark tail frame sharp violet eyes that rarely seem completely off duty. Two prominent scars define his face: one crossing horizontally over the bridge of his nose and another cutting vertically across his left eye. He favors dark, weather-resistant layers, reinforced leather, heavy boots, utility straps, gloves, and equipment designed for movement through forest and waterworks alike. Nothing he wears is ornamental without also having a purpose.

brief biography

Mizu Kurohana was born and raised in Moonfen, the eldest son of Kai and Naomi Kurohana. Unlike his parents, he grew up knowing the forest as home rather than refuge, but safety never made him careless. From childhood, Mizu was observant, quiet, and unusually aware of the people and spaces around him. He learned the paths through Moonfen, the behavior of its waterways, and the practical skills expected of someone raised in a community that survived by knowing its environment intimately. Even then, he had a habit of noticing trouble before anyone else admitted it existed. As he grew older, that vigilance became responsibility. Mizu proved exceptionally capable as a hunter, with the patience to track game over long distances and the awareness to notice changes in the forest other people might overlook. He eventually became one of Moonfen’s primary hunters, helping keep the settlement supplied with meat while monitoring the surrounding territory for shifting game trails, predators, unfamiliar tracks, and other signs that something was wrong. The work suits him: physical, quiet, necessary, and dependent on knowing the land well enough to recognize when it has changed. His protective instincts developed just as strongly. An attack during his youth left permanent scars across his face, including one over the bridge of his nose and another crossing his left eye. The experience hardened some of his instincts, but it did not make him cruel. If anything, it made him more determined to notice danger before it reaches someone else.Today, Mizu remains one of Moonfen’s most trusted hunters, regularly ranging beyond the settlement to track game, scout the surrounding forest, and help provide for the community. He carries that responsibility alongside the quieter burden of being Kai and Naomi’s eldest child. He is fiercely loyal to his parents, Kri, Mina, and the people he considers his own, though he has an unfortunate tendency to treat his own needs as considerably less urgent.

BONDS
ㅤ  Kai Kurohana  ㅤFatherView ProfileMizu respects Kai more than almost anyone, even if neither of them is particularly skilled at saying sentimental things out loud. Their similarities can make conversations frustratingly quiet, but Mizu trusts his father’s judgment and understands the weight Kai carries as Alpha. Much of Mizu’s own sense of duty was learned simply by watching him.
ㅤ  Naomi Kurohana  ㅤMotherView ProfileNaomi is one of the few people capable of reading Mizu before he has decided whether he wants to be read at all. He trusts her completely, even when she is inconveniently correct about his exhaustion, injuries, or habit of taking on too much. Her gentleness has always felt safe rather than fragile, which makes it considerably harder for him to argue with her.
ㅤ  Kri Kurohana  ㅤBrotherView ProfileKri and Mizu could not approach life more differently, which is probably why they balance each other so well. Mizu quietly watches out for his younger brother while Kri regularly attempts to drag him toward something resembling fun, fashion, or basic emotional literacy. Mizu may act unimpressed by Kri’s theatrics, but anyone insulting him will discover very quickly how little patience Mizu actually has.
ㅤ  Mina Kurohana  ㅤSisterView ProfileMizu has a particularly soft spot for Mina, though he would prefer nobody make a production out of noticing it. He respects her intelligence, creativity, and ability to approach problems without immediately treating them as threats. Around her, his guard tends to lower almost without permission, and he is usually willing to listen to whatever she is excited about long after anyone else has wandered away.

  •   sexuality    BISEXUAL

  •   origin    EIRWOLD

  •   location    MOONFEN

  •   job(s)    TAILOR / PATTERWRIGHT / BOUTIQUE OWNER

personality   Kri is confident, expressive, and almost aggressively comfortable being himself. Clever, sociable, and armed with a devastating sense of style, he enjoys teasing the people he loves and has very little patience for anyone who mistakes restraint for superiority. Beneath the sass is a deeply attentive person who notices discomfort quickly, particularly when someone feels ashamed of their body, species traits, or appearance. Kri believes clothing should serve the person wearing it, never force them to conform to someone else’s idea of acceptable.

*❛ ⸻⸻

Kri Kurohana believes survival is no excuse for looking miserable. Moonfen’s resident tailor and patternwright, he designs adaptive clothing for demi-humans, fixes everyone else’s terrible fashion decisions, and treats personal expression as one more freedom nobody gets to take away.

  •   hair    VIOLET / TEAL

  •   scars    MINOR

  •   languages    COMMON / EIRWOOD SIGN

  •   ethnicity    EIRWOLD NORTHERN

appearance   Kri has a lean, graceful build and an androgynous beauty he emphasizes rather than downplays. His long hair falls in rich violet tones fading into deep teal, paired with dark wolf ears and a large expressive tail carrying the same unusual coloring. He favors fitted black clothing, long coats, open necklines, polished boots, layered jewelry, chains, and carefully chosen violet accents. His claws are usually painted, his accessories are rarely accidental, and even his practical clothing looks suspiciously better tailored than everyone else’s.

brief biography

Kri Kurohana was raised in Moonfen’s northern forests by Kai and Naomi, growing up in a family that valued usefulness, independence, and the freedom to become something entirely his own. Where Mizu gravitated toward protection and Mina toward study and art, Kri found himself fascinated by clothing: how fabric moved, how a cut could change posture, and how badly most garments accommodated demi-human bodies. What began as experimentation became skill, then obsession. Kri learned tailoring, patternmaking, alteration, and the tiny structural tricks required to make clothing work properly around ears, tails, unusual movement, and the practical realities of life beyond conventional cities. As an adult, Kri turned that skill into a profession, becoming Moonfen’s local tailor, patternwright, and boutique owner. His work ranges from beautiful everyday clothing to highly specialized adaptive garments designed around mobility, comfort, concealment, and species-specific anatomy. Kri refuses to treat practicality and beauty as opposites. To him, clothing is another form of autonomy: something chosen for the person wearing it, rather than a uniform imposed upon them. His own immaculate androgynous style makes that philosophy difficult to miss, right down to the jewelry, fitted layers, dramatic coats, and carefully painted claws.Kri has never been interested in disappearing simply because Moonfen itself must remain hidden. Confident, sharp-tongued, and difficult to embarrass, he occupies space deliberately and encourages others to do the same. Beneath the teasing and impeccable presentation is someone deeply protective of his family and unusually sensitive to the ways shame can be used to control people. Kai and Naomi gave him the freedom to become unapologetically himself, and Kri has made a life out of extending that same freedom to others, one perfectly fitted garment at a time.

BONDS
ㅤ  Kai Kurohana  ㅤFatherView ProfileKri loves his father dearly, even if Kai occasionally looks at one of his outfits like he is attempting to solve a particularly confusing survival problem. He respects Kai’s strength, restraint, and absolute commitment to letting his children choose their own lives. Kri also takes shameless pleasure in testing exactly how much nonsense the famously stoic Alpha can endure before finally reacting.
ㅤ  Naomi Kurohana  ㅤMotherView ProfileNaomi has always been one of Kri’s safest people, supportive without ever trying to reshape him into something easier to understand. She encourages his creativity, listens when he excitedly explains some new design, and possesses an irritating talent for noticing when his confidence is covering actual hurt. Kri can talk his way around most people. Naomi is unfortunately immune.
ㅤ  Mizu Kurohana  ㅤBrotherView ProfileMizu is Kri’s favorite target for unsolicited fashion advice, emotional pestering, and attempts to force the man to experience something resembling leisure. Their personalities could hardly be more different, but Kri trusts his older brother completely and knows Mizu will always show up when it matters. He also considers it his sacred sibling duty to prevent Mizu from dressing entirely like an intimidating piece of camping equipment.
ㅤ  Mina Kurohana  ㅤSisterView ProfileKri adores Mina’s creativity and genuinely values her artistic eye, frequently dragging her into conversations about color, fabric, composition, and whatever project currently has him obsessed. She is one of the few people whose criticism he actively asks for because he knows she will be thoughtful rather than polite. Their relationship is easy, affectionate, and dangerously productive whenever they decide to make something together.

  •   sexuality    Bisexual.

  •   origin    Eirwold.

  •   location    Moonfen.

  •   job(s)    Teacher.

personality   Mina is patient, observant, and quietly self-assured, with a calm manner that can make her seem softer than she actually is. She is genuinely warm and encouraging, especially with students or people who are still finding their confidence, but she does not confuse kindness with permissiveness. Mina expects effort, not perfection, and has little patience for deliberate laziness, cruelty, or someone pretending not to care because caring feels embarrassing. She tends to think before speaking, notices more than she immediately comments on, and can be surprisingly stubborn once she believes something matters. Around family, her composure loosens considerably; she is more teasing, expressive, and willing to call someone out when they are being ridiculous.

She tends to carry herself with easy, controlled posture, her movements expressive without being exaggerated. Mina’s overall appearance feels polished but personal rather than overly formal; even when dressed for work, there is usually some hint of individual style in the way she wears her hair, layers her clothing, or chooses accessories.

brief biography

Mina Kurohana was born and raised in Moonfen, the daughter of Kai and Naomi Kurohana and sister to Mizu and Kri. The forest settlement was never something distant or mysterious to her; it was simply home. She grew up among its wooded paths, lake edges, shared spaces, and familiar faces, learning early that a small community survives through participation as much as protection. Mina was curious, attentive, and remarkably patient even when young, often more interested in understanding why something worked than accepting that it simply did. Where other children might have rushed through a lesson, Mina had a habit of lingering over details until they made sense. That patience eventually drew her toward teaching. Mina discovered that she enjoyed helping others understand things nearly as much as she enjoyed learning them herself, particularly when working with children who needed time, encouragement, or a different approach. She became a teacher within Moonfen, developing a style built around curiosity, practical learning, and the belief that mistakes are part of becoming competent rather than something to be ashamed of. Mina expects genuine effort from her students, but she rarely demands that everyone learn in exactly the same way. Her classroom reflects that philosophy: structured enough to feel safe, flexible enough to leave room for experimentation, questions, and the occasional lesson that wanders somewhere unexpected.Today, Mina has become a familiar and dependable part of Moonfen’s daily life. She is warm without being endlessly permissive, patient without being passive, and stubborn enough to challenge someone when she believes they are capable of more than they are giving themselves credit for. Around her family, much of her teacherly composure disappears; she is more playful, teasing, and willing to tell her parents or brothers exactly when they are being ridiculous. Mina has never needed to be the loudest Kurohana in the room. She finds meaning in smaller things: helping someone finally understand a difficult idea, encouraging a student who has convinced themselves they cannot succeed, and contributing to the community that raised her by helping shape the people who will inherit it.

BONDS
ㅤ  Kai Kurohana  ㅤFatherview profileMina loves Kai deeply and respects the responsibility he carries for both their family and Moonfen, though she is far less intimidated by him than outsiders tend to be. She is comfortable challenging him when she thinks he is being too protective or unnecessarily stubborn, usually with enough affection in her tone that even disagreement feels familiar rather than hostile.
ㅤ  Naomi Kurohana  ㅤMotherview profileMina shares an especially warm relationship with Naomi and often seeks her out for conversation, advice, or simply quiet company. She admires her mother’s steadiness and emotional intelligence, while Naomi is one of the people most capable of recognizing when Mina is overextending herself despite insisting that she is perfectly fine.
ㅤ  Mizu Kurohana  ㅤBrotherview profileMina understands Mizu’s protective nature better than most and loves him fiercely, but she also recognizes how easily he places everyone else’s needs ahead of his own. She regularly pushes back against his habit of treating himself as expendable, offering care with the same stubborn persistence he uses to protect the rest of the family. Their bond is quiet, dependable, and deeply affectionate.
ㅤ  Kri Kurohana  ㅤBrotherview profileMina and Kri share an easy sibling familiarity built on teasing, affection, and years of knowing exactly how to irritate one another. She genuinely admires Kri’s creativity and individuality and is quick to defend him when necessary, although that loyalty has never prevented her from calling him ridiculous directly to his face.

personality   Calder is blunt, dry-humored, and deeply practical, with very little patience for posturing, cruelty, or people who mistake obedience for goodness. He rarely offers comfort through pretty words, preferring food, shelter, useful advice, and showing up when it matters. Beneath the gravelly manner is a remarkably compassionate man who refuses to treat vulnerability as weakness. He can be stubborn, secretive, and maddeningly independent, particularly when his own health is involved, but his loyalty is absolute once given.   appearance   Calder stands only 5'6", compact beside the much taller people he has spent his life guiding through mountains, rail yards, and border country. His build is lean, wiry, and weather-hardened, shaped by decades of physical work rather than deliberate training. Frost-white, salt-and-pepper hair frames a deeply lined face, storm-gray eyes, and an expressive mouth that seems permanently one remark away from amusement. His hands and forearms carry old work scars, with another cutting through his right brow. Calder dresses for usefulness above everything else: layered dark clothing, worn boots, weatherproof coats, gloves, belts, and whatever equipment the terrain requires. Nothing about him looks polished, but very little about him looks unprepared.

brief biography

Calder Wren spent most of his early life working the mountain rail lines around Grey Antler, first as an engineer and later taking guide work wherever the tracks gave way to difficult country. He knew freight schedules, service tunnels, maintenance yards, mountain passes, and the quiet shortcuts that never appeared on public maps. Calder was never particularly obedient, but for years he did what most people did: kept his head down, did his job, and told himself that the uglier cargo moving through human-controlled territory was beyond his ability to change. That ended when he found Apollo and Landon Serpentine. The twins were around six years old, frightened snow leopard children being loaded onto a train for transport to an auction where their bloodline and appearance marked them for sale as high-value household pets. Calder looked into their cages and saw children. He sabotaged the transfer, slipped them out before the train could leave, and abandoned his job, home, records, and ordinary life almost immediately afterward. There was no going back once the missing cargo was discovered. Apollo fought him hard enough to bite through one of his gloves; Calder only told him to keep his teeth. Landon eventually became so cold and terrified that his joints locked, forcing Calder to carry him through part of their escape.Getting the twins into demi-human-controlled territory took everything Calder knew about rail systems and mountain travel, and nearly everything he owned. What began as one impulsive rescue became the direction of the rest of his life. Calder settled in Grey Antler and gradually became part of the sanctuary network, using old rail knowledge, hidden routes, forged schedules, and mountain paths to help others disappear from transport systems like the one that nearly claimed Apollo and Landon. He never formally set out to become their father, but he stayed, taught them how to survive, and became family anyway. His rules remained simple: stay together, fight together, do not get captured, and never mistake a pretty cage for freedom.

BONDS
ㅤ  Apollo Serpentine  ㅤSonurlCalder has loved Apollo since the day a terrified six-year-old snow leopard bit clean through his glove during their escape. Apollo can test Calder’s patience like few people alive, but Calder knows the bravado, temper, and sharp edges well enough to recognize what sits underneath them. He is fiercely proud of the man Apollo became, even when he would rather eat gravel than say it too sentimentally.
ㅤ  Landon Serpentine  ㅤSonurlCalder still remembers carrying Landon through the cold when fear locked his joints and he could no longer keep moving on his own. Their bond has always been quieter than Calder’s relationship with Apollo, built through steady reassurance, practical teaching, and the certainty that Landon never had to earn the right to be protected. Calder respects his curiosity, intelligence, and gentler nature, and has spent years making sure Landon understands that softness is not the same thing as helplessness. To Calder, he will always be one of his boys, no matter how much taller than him Landon gets.

  •   origin    Thornwyck.

  •   location    Grey Antler.

  •   mental illness    Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD).

personality   Apollo is charismatic, proud, dramatic, and relentlessly self-assured, with a strong need to feel admired, respected, and difficult to dismiss. He is highly conscious of status, appearance, and how others perceive him, and reacts poorly to humiliation, condescension, or being treated as insignificant. His Narcissistic Personality Disorder shapes the way he manages self-esteem and relationships, but it does not erase his capacity for attachment or care. Apollo can be cutting, competitive, possessive, and infuriatingly certain of his own judgment, yet his loyalty to Landon, Calder, and the few people he truly claims as his is fierce. Affection from Apollo is rarely quiet; he praises extravagantly, defends aggressively, and expects the people he loves to know they are worth protecting.

Even dressed casually, he has a habit of looking composed enough that it feels intentional.

brief biography

Apollo Serpentine was born in Grey Antler alongside his twin brother, Landon, inside Frostmere Lineage House, an illegal breeding facility operating beneath the cover of legitimate lineage care. The twins were deliberately bred as high-value snow leopard demi-humans for eventual sale into human territory, where rare appearance, bloodline, and perceived suitability as household pets could command enormous prices. Apollo’s earliest years were shaped by evaluation, handling, confinement, and the constant message that his body existed to be judged by someone else. Even as a child, he reacted badly to control. He was sharp-tempered, watchful, proud, and far more willing to bite than cooperate when frightened. At around six years old, Apollo and Landon were selected for transport and loaded into cages for a rail shipment bound toward a human-controlled auction. Calder Wren, then a rail engineer and mountain guide, discovered what was being moved through the line and made the decision that ended his old life. He sabotaged the transfer, freed the twins, and fled with them before the convoy could depart. Apollo fought Calder hard enough to bite clean through one of his gloves, expecting punishment and receiving only the instruction, “Good. Keep your teeth. You’ll need them.” Calder carried Landon when fear and cold locked his joints, and got both boys into safety. The failed shipment later helped expose Frostmere’s trafficking operation, leading Thornwyck authorities to raid and shut the facility down.Apollo grew up in Grey Antler with Calder as the closest thing he had to a father and Landon as the constant center of his world. He became outspoken, image-conscious, ambitious, and intensely resistant to ever appearing powerless again, eventually turning his natural charisma and hunger for attention toward music. Today he works as a local singer, thriving on performance, recognition, and the ability to control exactly how others see him. His Narcissistic Personality Disorder shapes his relationship with admiration, status, and self-esteem, but beneath the polished confidence remains the same fierce refusal Calder protected in him as a child. Apollo may enjoy being watched now, but the difference matters to him more than almost anything: the audience can look, admire, and applaud. They do not own him.

Shared History

Apollo and Landon were born in Grey Antler inside an illegal breeding operation that had been functioning beneath the city’s nose. The facility selectively bred snow leopard demi-humans for traits prized by wealthy human buyers: striking coloration, manageable size as children, recognizable pure-blood features, temperament assessments, and the kind of appearance marketed as desirable for luxury household ownership. Apollo and Landon were not captured from a free family. They were bred specifically to be sold as pets. The operation survived by hiding behind legitimate paperwork and presenting itself locally as a private lineage-care facility. Its real business was moving young demi-humans out of Thornwyck using forged transit records, bribed intermediaries, and rail connections leading into human-controlled territory. Children considered especially valuable were quietly exported and sold through private auctions.Apollo and Landon were around six when they were scheduled for transport. Their snow leopard bloodline and appearance made them high-value inventory, and they were being loaded aboard a train bound for human territory when Calder Wren discovered them. Calder sabotaged the shipment, removed the twins from their cages, abandoned his job and ordinary life, and fled with them before the transport could depart.Calder gets the boys off the train and flees with them through the mountain routes. Once he can safely surface, he brings them to Thornwatch, because that is where he can get them formally recognized as recovered children instead of stolen “property.” They spend some time there being treated, documented, protected, and debriefed while authorities begin investigating Frostmere Lineage House. Afterward, Calder takes them to Grey Antler, which becomes their actual home and where he raises them. The twins’ disappearance caused problems the facility could not contain. Missing cargo records, falsified rail documentation, and discrepancies surrounding the aborted shipment eventually drew Thornwyck authorities into the operation. Investigators uncovered the breeding program, trafficking network, and prior exports. The facility was raided and permanently shut down, with surviving residents removed from its custody and records seized..

BONDS
ㅤ  Landon Serpentine  ㅤTwin Brother / Closest PersonurlLandon is the most constant relationship in Apollo’s life and the person he trusts with the least performance required. They were born together inside Frostmere Lineage House, survived captivity together, escaped together, and built their first real home side by side. Apollo is intensely protective of Landon, sometimes to the point of becoming overbearing, and reacts badly to anyone treating his brother’s gentleness, ADHD, or Marfan syndrome as weakness. Landon is also one of the few people who can puncture Apollo’s ego without threatening the relationship underneath it. Apollo may crave admiration from the rest of the world, but Landon’s affection matters differently; it is not something he believes he has to perform for or earn.
ㅤ  Calder Wren  ㅤFather Figure / Rescuer / FamilyurlCalder is the first adult Apollo remembers choosing the twins over the system that owned them. Apollo was around six when Calder cut them out of transport cages before they could be shipped to auction, and his first response to the stranger handling him was to bite clean through Calder’s glove. Calder’s answer, “Good. Keep your teeth. You’ll need them,” became one of the earliest lessons Apollo received that his defiance did not need to be corrected. Calder never tried to make him quieter, more agreeable, or easier to manage, and Apollo loves him fiercely for it. He complains about Calder’s stubbornness, worries about his health, and absolutely considers him his father whether either of them bothers using the word every day or not.

  •   mental illness    ADHD.

  •   disability    Marfan Syndrome.

  •   job(s)    Geological Surveyor / Mineralogist.

personality   Landon is curious, thoughtful, and intensely enthusiastic about the subjects that catch his attention, particularly geology. His ADHD makes his focus highly uneven; ordinary tasks can slip straight through his fingers while a fascinating mineral sample can consume hours of completely uninterrupted attention. He tends to speak more softly than Apollo and is less interested in status or attention, but he is not passive. Landon can be stubborn, absent-minded, unexpectedly blunt, and almost impossible to redirect once his curiosity has taken hold. He forms attachments slowly but deeply, and his demisexuality mirrors that broader tendency toward trust before intimacy. Around Apollo and Calder, he is noticeably more relaxed, affectionate, and willing to indulge the strange humor that otherwise stays hidden beneath his reserved exterior.

appearance   Landon stands an imposing 6'7", though his tall, narrow build and long limbs give him a more lanky silhouette than physically intimidating one. His Marfan syndrome contributes to his elongated proportions, with a lean frame, long fingers, and a slightly loose-limbed way of moving that becomes more controlled when he is focused on fieldwork. Silver hair frames blue eyes and prominent snow leopard ears, with matching feline traits completing the resemblance he shares with Apollo despite their very different presence. Minor scars across his hands, forearms, and shins come from years of field surveys, climbing rough terrain, and apparently believing every interesting rock deserves personal investigation.

Landon Serpentine was born in Grey Antler alongside his twin brother, Apollo, inside Frostmere Lineage House, an illegal breeding facility disguised as a legitimate lineage-care program. The twins were deliberately bred as high-value snow leopard demi-humans intended for sale into human-controlled territory, where rare bloodlines and desirable appearance could fetch enormous prices as luxury household pets.Landon’s earliest years were defined by confinement, evaluation, and being treated as something valuable without ever being treated as a person. Unlike Apollo, who often responded to fear by fighting, Landon tended to become quiet and physically rigid, watching everything around him and trying to make himself as difficult to notice as possible. When the twins were around six, Frostmere prepared them for transport to an auction beyond Thornwyck’s borders. They were already being loaded into cages aboard a rail convoy when Calder Wren discovered what was happening. Calder sabotaged the transfer, freed both children, and abandoned his job and ordinary life to get them away before the shipment could depart.During the escape, fear and cold eventually caused Landon’s joints to lock badly enough that he could no longer continue on his own, and Calder carried him through part of the mountain route. The three eventually reached Thornwatch, where Apollo and Landon were formally received as recovered children, given medical care, protected from reclamation attempts, and placed under sanctuary protection while Thornwyck authorities investigated Frostmere. Evidence tied to the failed transport helped expose the facility’s breeding and trafficking network, and Frostmere was later raided and permanently shut down. After their time in Thornwatch, Calder brought the twins back to Grey Antler, where he remained with them and gradually became their father in every way that mattered. Landon grew into a quiet, curious, deeply focused young man whose fascination with stone and landscape eventually became both profession and refuge. His ADHD can make ordinary responsibilities frustratingly slippery while geology captures his attention with near-total intensity, and he now works as a geological surveyor and mineralogist throughout the surrounding region. Fieldwork gives him something childhood rarely did: the freedom to explore because he chooses to, to stop when he wants, and to study the world without being studied in return. Apollo remains the person Landon trusts most instinctively, while Calder is still the man he knows will carry him when he cannot keep moving himself.

ㅤ  Apollo Serpentine  ㅤTwin Brother / Closest PersonurlApollo is Landon’s oldest and most instinctive source of trust. During captivity, Apollo fought outward while Landon tended to freeze, withdraw, and endure quietly, and the difference made them unusually complementary even as children. Landon understands the insecurity beneath Apollo’s pride better than almost anyone and rarely reacts to his dramatics with the awe Apollo receives elsewhere, something Apollo finds both irritating and grounding. In return, Apollo is one of the people around whom Landon can be fully enthusiastic, absent-minded, strange, affectionate, or overwhelmed without worrying that those traits will be used against him. Their bond is not delicate. They argue, annoy one another, and know exactly where every irritating button is located, but separation has never felt natural to either of them.
ㅤ  Calder Wren  ㅤFather Figure / Rescuer / FamilyurlLandon remembers Calder first through physical safety: cold, fear, joints that had locked badly enough that he could no longer keep moving, and Calder simply picking him up and carrying him. That memory became the foundation of a quieter relationship than Calder shares with Apollo, built through steady reassurance, practical teaching, and the repeated proof that Landon never needed to become harder in order to deserve protection. Calder taught him routes, survival skills, independence, and the difference between being gentle and being helpless. Landon trusts him deeply and is often the twin more likely to notice when Calder is tired, hurting, or pretending his bad knees are not bothering him. No matter how much taller Landon eventually grew, Calder remains the man he knows will carry him when he cannot keep moving.

  •   job(s)    Pet

personality   August is cheerful, affectionate, playful, and almost aggressively sincere. He loves physical affection and has very little dignity where belly rubs, praise, cuddling, or a thrown tennis ball are concerned. Being treated as his partner's pet is not something he merely tolerates; it is a relationship dynamic he actively enjoys, and the collar bearing her name is one of his most treasured possessions. August is intensely loyal and openly demonstrative, with an enthusiastic tail that often announces his feelings before he does. His ADHD makes him distractible, impulsive, and prone to powerful hyperfixations, but beneath the goofiness he is emotionally perceptive and painfully aware of the difference between choosing submission and being denied choice. He does not want to stop being her pet. He wants the world to recognize that he is a person who has the right to decide that for himself.

August Pyrrhus is an affectionate, exuberant Great Dane demi-human whose legal status lists him simply as a pet. The complicated part is that August genuinely likes being one. He loves wearing a collar marked with his owner’s name, being petted, sprawling with his head in her lap, receiving belly rubs, chasing tennis balls with humiliating enthusiasm, and being fussed over by the woman he has loved for most of his life. None of those things feel degrading to him. What hurts is living in a society that uses the things he enjoys as evidence that he is not human enough to choose them.

appearance   August stands 6'2" with a broad, athletic build, carrying the powerful proportions associated with his Great Dane lineage without appearing excessively bulky. Deep red hair, inherited from his mother Garnet, contrasts with bright blue eyes and the prominent canine ears and tail that make his species immediately obvious. His movements are expressive and physical, with a long tail that tends to betray excitement before the rest of him does. A faint restraint scar circles his neck, accompanied by smaller everyday marks accumulated over the years. August dresses comfortably and practically, favoring clothing that accommodates his size and movement rather than anything overly polished.

brief biography

August Pyrrhus was born in Larkspur Crossing, Brazoria Vale, inside a high-end breeding facility specializing in Great Dane demi-humans sold as premium household companions. His earliest memories are fragmented but stubbornly vivid: rows of siblings, handlers coming and going, and his mother Garnet, whose red hair matched his own. She always seemed tired. August remembers her resting whenever she was allowed, remembers pressing close to her when he could, and remembers siblings disappearing one at a time without understanding where they had gone. Jasper, Marianne, Marie, Wyatt, and Clementine are only some of the names he has managed to hold onto. There were more. He does not know where most of them are now, or whether Garnet ever learned what became of any of her children.August was sold while still young and given to the human girl who would become his owner while she was also still a child. Whatever the adults around them intended, the two children grew up together rather than learning the roles expected of owner and pet in any simple way. They became companions, confidants, and eventually the person each trusted most. She never regarded August as disposable property, and August never experienced his affection for her as obedience. As they grew older, that attachment deepened, and only in adulthood did it become romantic. By then they understood enough of the world to know exactly why that love frightened them. Brazoria Vale still recognizes August through ownership records. No matter what she calls him, no matter what he chooses, the law can still point to paperwork and insist that one of them belongs to the other. Now in his twenties, August lives inside a contradiction neither of them knows how to solve. He loves her, and she loves him. She wants him free without losing him. August wants freedom without being forced to abandon the person who has been beside him for nearly his entire remembered life. Running toward demi-human territory might offer legal personhood, but it could also mean checkpoints, separation, suspicion, lost records, and the possibility of never finding Garnet or his siblings. Staying means continuing beneath a legal status they both hate. August is cheerful, affectionate, distractible, and capable of finding enormous joy in ordinary life, but beneath that warmth sits a question neither love nor loyalty can answer for him: how does someone prove that staying is a choice when the world never gave them the right to leave?

BONDS
ㅤ  Jenna Park  ㅤOwner / Partner / Childhood CompanionurlJenna has been the center of August’s life since they were both children. He was given to her young enough that they effectively grew up side by side, first as child and pet, then as best friends, and eventually as adults who fell genuinely in love. August still enjoys calling himself hers, wearing a collar with her name, sprawling across her lap, and embracing the pet dynamic they built together, but the distinction between choice and ownership matters enormously to both of them. Jenna wants him free because she loves him; August wants freedom without losing the right to choose her.
ㅤ  Park Family  ㅤHousehold / Chosen FamilyurlThe Park family is the household August grew up inside and the closest thing he has had to a stable family since being taken from his birth relatives. Their relationship with him is inevitably complicated by the fact that the law has always classified him as family property rather than a person, even while daily life blurred that boundary almost beyond recognition. August is deeply attached to the household, its routines, and the people who helped raise him alongside Jenna. The possibility of escaping the legal system therefore carries a second fear beyond punishment: freedom could also mean losing the only home he remembers.
ㅤ  Garnet  ㅤMother / Lost FamilyurlAugust remembers Garnet through fragments: deep red hair like his own, constant exhaustion, and the sense that she was always trying to divide too little energy among too many children. He was taken from her young enough that much of what remains is emotional rather than precise, but he has never forgotten that she was his mother before anyone else called him a pet. August does not know what became of her after he was sold to the Park family. He rarely speaks about that uncertainty for long, because imagining every possible answer is worse than admitting he simply does not know.
ㅤ  Jasper, Marianne, Marie, Wyatt & Clementine  ㅤSiblings / Whereabouts UnknownurlThese are the siblings August still remembers by name from the breeding facility where he was born. There were more children than these five, but years of separation have blurred faces, ages, and details until the names themselves have become precious. August does not know whether they were sold, transferred, kept for breeding, escaped, or survived at all. Part of him wants desperately to search for them; another part is frightened of what records might reveal. For now, remembering their names is the one thing captivity never managed to take from him.

  •   mental illness    Autism

  •   job(s)    Freedom Guide / Intelligence Courier / Sanctuary Network Connector

personality   Solaris is private, observant, intensely self-controlled, and notoriously difficult to read. He speaks carefully, reveals little without reason, and prefers to understand a room before allowing anyone in it to understand him. His autism shapes many of his routines, sensory preferences, and communication habits; predictability, familiar objects, and controlled environments help him regulate, while sudden changes or invasive attention can make him withdraw sharply. Solaris is strategic rather than impulsive, protective without being openly nurturing, and deeply resistant to anyone treating survival as something glamorous. He dislikes being called a hero, especially by Tavi, because he considers the Red Ribbon Twenty’s escape a collective effort rather than his personal legend. Despite his intimidating presence, he has an unapologetically soft private streak: pink is his favorite color, stuffed animals cover his bed, and he sees absolutely no reason this should conflict with owning an extensive dagger collection.

  •   languages    Common / Mesquite Sign / Veyrhalden Sign

  •   ethnicity    Mesquite Reach Borderlander

appearance   Solaris stands 5'11" with a lean, wiry, athletic build, more suited to speed, endurance, and precision than brute strength. Gold hair frames sharp green eyes and long rabbit ears with darker tips, while a large fox-like plume tail gives away more emotion than his face usually does. His rabbit-fox heritage creates an unusual silhouette, elegant at rest and startlingly quick in motion. A prominent collar scar circles his neck, deliberately marked by the red ribbon he wears in the same place as a symbol of survival and reclaimed ownership of his own body. Solaris favors fitted dark clothing, pale structured coats, gloves, practical hardware, and concealed blades, presenting himself with an almost excessive degree of polish. The result is less fashionable than calculated: he looks like a man who has already identified every exit before anyone else has found their seat.

brief biography

Solaris Devrillo was born in captivity in Mesquite Reach and raised inside a system that never expected him to belong to himself. As a rabbit-fox hybrid demi-human with exceptional speed, perception, and intelligence, he was trained for protection and security work on behalf of the very slavers who controlled him. Humans taught him how to watch rooms, identify threats, follow routes, guard valuable cargo, and anticipate escape attempts, never considering what might happen if he eventually turned those skills against them. One of the few humans Solaris remembers with any tenderness was a woman who once told him she wished she knew how to free them. She later died attempting to escape with him when Solaris was still a teenager. Years afterward, he would take her surname, Devrillo, so that something of her survived beyond the place that killed her.As an adult, Solaris finally did what his handlers had spent years training him to prevent: he helped start a rebellion. Roughly twenty captives escaped in the chaos and followed him across the full length of the Old Red Road toward Veyrhalden. They would later become known as the Red Ribbon Twenty. Solaris led because somebody had to choose the next road, but he has always rejected the idea that he saved them alone. Nye kept people alive, Sky kept names from being lost, Aerowin refused to abandon Devlin, Tavi served as a lookout at only fourteen, and every survivor carried some part of the escape. They eventually reached the water, crossed into Veyrhalden, and arrived in Veyrport. Not all twenty remained together afterward, something Solaris considers one of the clearest proofs that they were truly free: they could finally choose where to go and who to become. In Veyrhalden, Solaris underwent the name-drowning ceremony, writing the name given to him in captivity onto paper and letting the water take it. He emerged as Solaris Devrillo, legally recognized under a name he had chosen for himself. He now works as a freedom guide, intelligence courier, and sanctuary-network connector, using the same route knowledge and threat awareness once forced into him to help other demi-humans disappear from systems of ownership. Solaris remains intensely private, controlled, and difficult to read, enough that strangers routinely assume he is some variety of assassin and he rarely bothers correcting them. He wears a red ribbon around his neck where his collar once sat and openly keeps a collection of daggers, while considerably fewer people know that pink is his favorite color or that stuffed animals occupy most of his bed. He despises being called a hero, particularly by Tavi, but continues doing the work anyway. For Solaris, freedom is not the moment someone crosses a border. It is everything that becomes possible afterward.

BONDS
ㅤ  Nye Billion  ㅤTrusted Friend / Medic / Red Ribbon TwentyurlNye is one of the people Solaris trusts most when something has gone catastrophically wrong. As the group's doctor and one of the oldest members of the Red Ribbon Twenty who remained in Veyrport, Nye carried responsibilities during the escape that Solaris could never have shouldered alone. Solaris respects his judgment enough to actually listen when Nye tells him to sit down, eat, sleep, or stop pretending an injury is insignificant, though cooperation is never guaranteed on the first attempt. Their friendship is quiet, practical, and built on the kind of trust that forms when two people have repeatedly kept each other alive.
ㅤ  Devlin Ward  ㅤFriend / Fellow Survivor / Red Ribbon TwentyurlSolaris has never regarded Devlin as a failed anything. Humans deliberately bred a Komodo dragon demi-human line with a hawk demi-human line in an attempt to manufacture something they could call a dragon, then treated Devlin's existence as a disappointment when the experiment failed to satisfy them. Solaris has very little tolerance for anyone speaking about Devlin in those terms, even academically. He respects Devlin's right to define himself outside the purpose humans designed for him and is especially careful never to turn curiosity about what was done to him into another form of observation or ownership.
ㅤ  Aerowin Ward  ㅤTrusted Friend / Fellow Survivor / Red Ribbon TwentyurlSolaris understands Aerowin's devotion to Devlin better than most. Aerowin's mother originally sold herself for money to support him, only to be kept herself; after Devlin was born and judged a failed breeding experiment, all three were ultimately sold. Aerowin's refusal to abandon his younger half-brother survived every attempt to separate, price, or redefine them. Solaris respects that loyalty enormously. The two rarely need to explain protective instincts to one another, though that same similarity can make them equally stubborn when either decides that taking a risk alone is somehow preferable to frightening everyone else.
ㅤ  Sky Cotton  ㅤFriend / Record Keeper / Red Ribbon TwentyurlSky keeps the records Solaris cannot bring himself to treat casually. Her ledger tracks people who arrive seeking sanctuary, where they go, what help they need, and what becomes of them when that information can safely be known; she also maintains the record of the original Red Ribbon Twenty. Solaris places enormous trust in her because names are not abstractions to either of them. Every entry represents someone who survived long enough to be counted. He may lead people through dangerous spaces, but Sky makes certain they do not disappear simply because the running has stopped.
ㅤ  Tavi Thorn  ㅤFriend / Protégé / Red Ribbon TwentyurlTavi was only fourteen when the Red Ribbon Twenty escaped, and Solaris has never quite stopped seeing traces of that frightened, sharp-eyed kid beneath the barely adult ferret he is now. Tavi, unfortunately for Solaris, considers him a hero and makes very little effort to hide it. Solaris despises the pedestal, insisting that Nye healed people, Sky kept track of them, the others fought and carried and watched, and Tavi himself served as a lookout when no fourteen-year-old should ever have needed to. Tavi's usual answer is some variation of, “You still started it.” Solaris has yet to find a satisfactory argument against that. He is fiercely protective of Tavi, but he also pushes him toward independence because the entire point of getting him out was for Tavi to eventually have a life that did not revolve around surviving or following Solaris.

personality   Nye is patient, grounded, observant, and deeply compassionate, with the quiet confidence of someone who has spent most of his adult life being useful in bad situations. He rarely raises his voice and has little interest in commanding attention, preferring dry humor, practical reassurance, and the occasional affectionate cher when someone is being especially difficult. Nye is generous with care but not indulgent; he will listen without judgment, then tell someone exactly what they are doing wrong if their choices are putting them in danger. He carries the Red Ribbon Twenty with him without allowing the escape to define every relationship he has afterward, and he refuses to romanticize suffering simply because people survived it. Older than most of the group, Nye often slips naturally into a protective role, though he strongly prefers helping people become capable of caring for themselves rather than making them dependent on him.

Nye Billion is a physician, healer, and survivor of the Red Ribbon Twenty who has spent years turning emergency medicine into something close to an art form. Calm under pressure and difficult to rattle, he has a habit of making even catastrophic situations feel manageable simply by deciding what needs to happen next. His warm Louisiana Creole cadence and easy bedside manner make him approachable, but there is an unmistakable authority beneath both. When Nye says someone is going to sit down, drink water, or let him examine a wound, the discussion is usually already over.

appearance   Nye stands 6'2" in his humanoid form with a broad, muscular build shaped by years of physical work, medical fieldwork, and the natural power of his horse lineage. Dark green dreadlocks frame warm amber-brown eyes, while his horse ears, tail, and deep brown coloring give him an immediately recognizable silhouette. Old scars mark his neck, hands, and body, including the remains of a collar scar he no longer bothers hiding. Nye can also shift into a powerful centaur form, combining his human torso with a large dark-brown equine body, as well as a full horse form used for speed and endurance. Whether dressed for clinic work or travel, he favors practical layers, medical gear, sturdy boots or harnessing, and the red ribbon that marks him as one of the Twenty.

brief biography

Nye Billion was born in Mesquite Reach and spent much of his early life under systems that treated demi-humans as labor, inventory, or property long before they were treated as people. By adulthood, Nye had become exceptionally skilled in medicine, combining formal medical knowledge with the practical improvisation required when proper equipment, clean facilities, and time were luxuries. His horse-demi physiology gave him tremendous endurance, while his centaur and full horse forms made him uniquely useful for transporting supplies and injured people across difficult ground. None of that made captivity easier, but it made Nye indispensable to the people trapped beside him. He learned early that staying calm could keep panic from becoming another injury, and that sometimes survival depended on making a frightened person believe there was still a next step. When Solaris's rebellion broke open the path to escape, Nye became one of the pillars of what would later be called the Red Ribbon Twenty. He treated injuries while they moved, rationed medicine, watched for infection and exhaustion, and made decisions with whatever resources the Old Red Road allowed them. At thirty-four, he was older than most of the escapees and naturally became one of the people others leaned on, particularly when fear, pain, or uncertainty overwhelmed them. Solaris may have chosen routes and pushed the group forward, but Nye kept bodies capable of following. He has never allowed Solaris to erase that distinction when Sol insists the escape belonged to everyone. Nye agrees with him completely. Every person who reached Veyrhalden carried somebody else at least once, whether literally or otherwise.Nye remained in Veyrport after the Twenty reached freedom and built his life around making survival lead somewhere better. He now works as a physician and sanctuary healer, treating established residents alongside newly escaped demi-humans who arrive frightened, injured, underfed, or unsure what freedom is supposed to look like. His red ribbon remains visible among the old scars of captivity, not as proof that he survived better than anyone else, but as recognition of the people who survived beside him. Nye still keeps track of the scattered Twenty through Sky whenever possible, still worries over Tavi as though fourteen were yesterday, and remains one of the few people capable of ordering Solaris to rest with a reasonable chance of success. Veyrport gave Nye the right to build a life that belonged to him. He chose to spend a considerable portion of it making sure other people live long enough to make the same choice.

BONDS
ㅤ  Solaris Devrillo  ㅤTrusted Friend / Fellow Survivor / Red Ribbon TwentyurlNye trusts Solaris with his life and is one of the few people willing to challenge him without hesitation. During the escape, Solaris handled routes, threats, and impossible decisions while Nye kept people alive long enough to follow him, and that mutual dependence never entirely disappeared. Nye understands why Solaris hates being called a hero and usually respects it, though he is also perfectly willing to remind him that refusing praise does not erase what he did. He worries about Solaris’s habit of treating his own limits as negotiable and has become extremely practiced at recognizing when Sol is injured, exhausted, overstimulated, or quietly unraveling behind that unreadable expression.
ㅤ  Devlin Ward  ㅤFriend / Patient / Fellow SurvivorurlNye has always been careful with Devlin in ways that go beyond medicine. He knows Devlin spent much of his life being examined, measured, discussed, and judged against the impossible creature humans intended him to become, so Nye never treats his body like a curiosity or medical puzzle without permission. Any examination begins with an explanation and a choice. Nye has little tolerance for anyone calling Devlin a failed experiment and tends to become unusually cold when confronted with the language of breeding programs or engineered bloodlines. To Nye, Devlin is not evidence of what humans attempted to create. He is simply Devlin.
ㅤ  Aerowin Ward  ㅤTrusted Friend / Fellow SurvivorurlNye respects Aerowin’s devotion to Devlin and understands exactly how much fear can hide beneath relentless protectiveness. During and after the escape, he often found himself treating one brother while the other hovered close enough to interfere, and the pattern has never entirely stopped. Nye is one of the few people Aerowin reliably allows near Devlin when something is medically wrong, trust earned through years of never separating them unnecessarily or dismissing Aerowin’s concerns. Their friendship contains a great deal of dry argument, particularly whenever Aerowin decides that being worried about everyone else somehow exempts him from becoming Nye’s patient.
ㅤ  Sky Cotton  ㅤClose Friend / Fellow Survivor / Sanctuary PartnerurlNye and Sky work together naturally because they care about different parts of the same problem. Nye worries about whether someone arriving in Veyrport is physically stable, while Sky worries about whether they have somewhere safe to sleep tomorrow, whether their chosen name has been recorded correctly, and whether anyone will know where they went afterward. He deeply values her ledger and the dignity with which she keeps it, particularly the record of the original Twenty. Nye occasionally brings her updates from people he has treated or heard from, and Sky is one of the few people who can make him admit when caring for everyone else has begun wearing him thin.
ㅤ  Tavi Thorn  ㅤFriend / Little Brother Figure / Fellow SurvivorurlNye still remembers Tavi as fourteen years old, exhausted, frightened, and trying desperately to remain useful while adults around him were falling apart. That image has made it difficult for him to fully accept that Tavi is technically grown now, which Tavi finds both comforting and incredibly annoying. Nye fusses over him, feeds him, checks injuries Tavi insists are nothing, and has absolutely no shame about using the same doctor voice on him now that he used on the Old Red Road. At the same time, he takes Tavi seriously as an adult and respects the courage and skill he showed as the group’s lookout. Nye also finds Tavi’s relentless worship of Solaris extremely funny, mostly because Solaris hates it so much.

  •   origin    Mesquite Reach

  •   location    Veyrport, Veyrhalden

  •   job(s)    Dockworker / Harbor Protector / Smuggling Route Lookout

personality   Devlin is charismatic, playful, sexually confident, and almost absurdly suave. He enjoys flirting because he genuinely enjoys people, attention, attraction, and the little electric moment when someone realizes he is interested in them. His confidence is rarely desperate or performative; Devlin knows he is attractive, knows exactly what his smile does to people, and sees no reason to pretend otherwise. Beneath the charm is a fiercely self-possessed survivor with a particular hatred of anyone reducing people to bloodlines, breeding value, or biological purpose. Being treated as a failed experiment shaped him, but he refuses to organize his identity around what humans wanted him to become. Devlin can be reckless, teasing, stubborn, and spectacularly inappropriate when amused, yet he is also loyal, protective, and far more emotionally perceptive than his constant flirting initially suggests.

*❛ ⸻⸻

Devlin Ward is a Komodo-hawk hybrid demi-human, survivor of the Red Ribbon Twenty, and walking proof that human breeding programs understood far less than they thought they did. Originally engineered in an attempt to create a dragon-like demi-human, Devlin was eventually classified as a failed experiment when he did not match the result his handlers wanted. He has since responded to that judgment by becoming aggressively difficult to overlook. Tall, broad, charming, and shamelessly flirtatious, Devlin moves through Veyrport with the confidence of a man who has decided that being wanted on his own terms is one of life’s better pleasures.

appearance   Devlin stands an imposing 7'2" with a massive, heavily muscular frame and the unmistakable physical traits of his engineered Komodo-hawk lineage. Crimson-red hair frames amber-gold eyes, while scaled skin, powerful reptilian features, dark feathers, and broad wings create a silhouette that looks far closer to some mythical predator than the “failed” result his creators claimed him to be. Experimental scars, old restraint marks, and combat injuries remain visible across his body, evidence of years spent being handled, tested, confined, and eventually fighting his way free. His war form exaggerates those traits into something genuinely monstrous, combining reptilian mass with avian reach and mobility, while his humanoid form remains imposing enough that most people need to look significantly upward when speaking to him. Devlin dresses with considerably more confidence than modesty and carries himself like someone fully aware that half the room has already noticed him.

brief biography

Devlin Ward was born in Mesquite Reach as the product of a human breeding program attempting to manufacture a dragon demi-human from Komodo dragon and hawk bloodlines. His body was monitored, measured, and judged against an imagined creature he had never agreed to become, and when the results failed to satisfy the people funding the project, Devlin was labeled a failure rather than recognized as a person. His older half-brother, Aerowin, remained stubbornly at his side through everything. When the project was abandoned and the family was sold, Devlin learned early exactly how little human systems cared about the difference between creating life and owning it. He carried that lesson with him, along with the scars left by experimentation, restraint, and years spent being treated as somebody else’s disappointing investment. When Solaris’s rebellion tore open a chance to escape, Devlin took it with both hands. He joined the group that would become the Red Ribbon Twenty, traveling the entire Old Red Road toward Veyrhalden with Aerowin refusing, as always, to leave his side. Devlin’s enormous strength, hybrid senses, climbing ability, and war form made him invaluable whenever the group needed cargo moved, obstacles cleared, or something dangerous convinced to reconsider its priorities. He fought hard, joked harder, and developed a habit of turning terror into something survivable by making people laugh at exactly the wrong moment. When the Twenty finally crossed into Veyrhalden and reached Veyrport, Devlin did not become solemn simply because freedom was precious. For him, being loud, flirtatious, reckless, attractive, ridiculous, and thoroughly alive became part of the point.Devlin remained in Veyrport, where he now works the docks, watches smuggling routes, and helps protect the same sanctuary network that once gave him somewhere safe to stop running. He is fiercely loyal to Solaris, inseparable from Aerowin in the way only brothers who survived ownership together can be, and shamelessly sociable enough that half the harbor seems to know him personally. Devlin loves attention, sex, bad jokes, drinking, flirting, and the wonderfully ordinary luxury of deciding exactly who gets access to him. His bed is rarely empty, his grin is almost always trouble, and he refuses to be embarrassed by either fact. Humans once declared him a failed attempt at making a dragon. Devlin has long since decided that becoming himself was the far better result.

BONDS
ㅤ  Solaris Devrillo  ㅤTrusted Friend / Fellow Survivor / Red Ribbon TwentyurlDevlin respects Solaris far more seriously than his teasing usually suggests. He followed Sol down the Old Red Road because Solaris proved through action that he valued the people beside him as people rather than assets, and that trust survived long after they reached Veyrport. Devlin delights in needling Solaris’s mysterious, intimidating reputation and is one of the people least likely to be frightened by a cold stare or carefully chosen silence. Beneath the jokes, however, he watches Sol closely and will step between him and danger without needing to be asked.
ㅤ  Nye Billion  ㅤClose Friend / Medic / Fellow SurvivorurlNye has patched Devlin together often enough that their relationship has developed its own familiar rhythm: Nye tells him to stop moving, Devlin makes an inappropriate joke, and Nye continues treating him as though nothing was said. Devlin trusts Nye completely with his body and health, something that carries particular weight after years of being examined without meaningful consent. He enjoys testing the doctor’s patience but never mistakes Nye’s gentleness for weakness. When Nye genuinely sounds worried, Devlin listens.
ㅤ  Aerowin Ward  ㅤOlder Half-Brother / FamilyurlAerowin has been the constant in Devlin’s life for as long as he can remember. He stayed beside Devlin through experimentation, sale, captivity, the Red Ribbon Twenty escape, and everything that followed, refusing every attempt to convince him that his younger brother was defective, burdensome, or disposable. Devlin loves him fiercely and is also almost completely immune to Aerowin’s carefully cultivated charm, sophisticated speeches, and strategic persuasion. He knows exactly how much effort goes into the princely performance and considers exposing it whenever Aerowin becomes too pleased with himself an important sibling responsibility.
ㅤ  Sky Cotton  ㅤFriend / Fellow Survivor / Red Ribbon TwentyurlDevlin treats Sky with considerably more seriousness than strangers might expect from him. He understands what it means to have other people define someone by records, classifications, and breeding documents, so Sky’s insistence on keeping names and histories according to the choices of the people themselves matters deeply to him. He jokes with her constantly, but he does not interfere with the ledger or the sanctuary work built around it. If Sky says someone needs help, Devlin rarely asks whether he is going. He asks what needs carrying.
ㅤ  Tavi Thorn  ㅤFriend / Little Brother Figure / Fellow SurvivorurlDevlin remembers Tavi as a fourteen-year-old ferret trying desperately to contribute to an escape far too dangerous for any child. Now that Tavi is barely grown, Devlin treats him with an aggravating mixture of genuine adult respect and older-brother-style teasing. He encourages Tavi to have fun, make mistakes, flirt badly, stay out too late, and generally experience all the ordinary nonsense captivity tried to steal from him. Devlin also finds Tavi’s worship of Solaris tremendously entertaining and has absolutely been known to encourage it when Solaris is within hearing distance.

Aerowin Ward

  •   origin    Mesquite Reach

  •   location    Veyrport, Veyrhalden

  •   job(s)    Sanctuary Escort / Harbor Courier / Community Liaison

personality   Aerowin is poised, witty, courteous, and deliberately sophisticated, speaking with carefully cultivated diction intended to make him seem more educated, important, and socially elevated than his circumstances ever allowed him to be. His charm is genuine, but rarely accidental; he is excellent at reading people, steering conversations, and presenting the option he wants in a way that makes choosing anything else feel faintly unreasonable. Aerowin likes being gallant because helping people truly does satisfy him, yet praise, gratitude, and admiration are powerful rewards he has no intention of pretending not to enjoy. His greatest flaw emerges when someone whose opinion matters to him remains unimpressed. Aerowin can become intensely fixated on winning their admiration, escalating from thoughtful gestures to carefully engineered opportunities to impress until he either succeeds or accidentally discovers he has been courting the same person for a year. Beneath the vanity is fierce loyalty, particularly toward Devlin, whose safety has been one of the few things Aerowin has never treated as negotiable.

Aerowin Ward is a hawk demi-human, sanctuary escort, and community liaison with the manners of a prince and the instincts of a man who has spent years learning exactly how people want to be treated. Elegant, attentive, and unfailingly helpful, he has cultivated a reputation as Veyrport’s resident white knight, always ready with a charming smile, a courteous hand, or precisely the right words. Aerowin genuinely enjoys helping people, but he enjoys being admired for it almost as much. The distinction becomes increasingly important whenever someone stubbornly refuses to be impressed.

appearance   Aerowin stands 6'1" with a lean, athletic frame and the effortless grace of someone built for flight. Gold hair and feathers frame striking violet eyes, while broad hawk wings and sharp avian features give him an elegant silhouette that he takes considerable care to present well. Old restraint scars remain beneath the polish, joined by smaller marks from flight, travel, and combat, but Aerowin dresses with enough precision that strangers tend to notice the immaculate clothing, jewelry, and confident posture first. Every detail supports the image he has deliberately constructed: refined without appearing fragile, approachable without seeming ordinary, and just aristocratic enough that people frequently assume he must be considerably more important than he actually is. Aerowin has never considered correcting that assumption a particularly urgent matter.

brief biography

Aerowin Ward was born in Mesquite Reach and spent his earliest years with his mother before desperation forced her into a choice that would define all three of their lives. Needing money to keep Aerowin fed and sheltered, she sold herself into a human-controlled household and took her young son with her, believing the arrangement would provide enough stability to raise him. Instead, she was kept. Aerowin grew up beside her inside a system that had never purchased him directly but nevertheless treated his presence as something equally controllable. He learned early that manners, usefulness, and the right words could change how dangerous people behaved around him, and he became exceptionally skilled at making himself seem composed, agreeable, and worth keeping on favorable terms.Devlin was born later as part of a deliberate breeding experiment intended to produce a dragon-like demi-human, making Aerowin his older half-brother but never part of the project himself. When Devlin failed to become what the humans responsible wanted, the distinction ultimately meant very little. Their mother, Aerowin, and Devlin were all sold together. Aerowin refused every opportunity or pressure to distance himself from his younger brother, becoming increasingly protective as Devlin was examined, judged, and treated like defective property. By the time Solaris’s rebellion created an opening for escape, Aerowin had spent years reading captors, anticipating moods, smoothing conflicts, and quietly maneuvering people toward safer outcomes. He brought all of those skills onto the Old Red Road, joining the Red Ribbon Twenty and refusing to leave Devlin behind no matter how dangerous carrying one another toward Veyrhalden became. After reaching Veyrport, Aerowin rebuilt himself with almost theatrical intention. The sophisticated speech, impeccable manners, elegant clothes, and princely reputation were not inherited markers of status but choices, assembled piece by piece by a man who had learned how much differently the world responds when someone appears important. He now works as a sanctuary escort, harbor courier, and community liaison, throwing himself eagerly into situations where he can help, negotiate, rescue, or impress. His kindness is real, but so is the satisfaction he takes in being admired for it, and anyone who stubbornly refuses to recognize his charms risks becoming the object of a surprisingly persistent campaign to change their mind. Beneath every polished gesture, however, remains the oldest certainty in Aerowin’s life: Devlin is his brother, and no owner, buyer, breeding program, border, or new name has ever been allowed to alter that.

BONDS
ㅤ  Solaris Devrillo  ㅤTrusted Ally / Fellow Survivor / Red Ribbon TwentyurlAerowin respects Solaris’s judgment, leadership, and absolute refusal to treat anyone in the Twenty as disposable. Unfortunately, Solaris is also exceptionally difficult to impress, which made him an early and enduring irritation to Aerowin’s vanity. Aerowin has spent an embarrassing amount of time attempting to earn a reaction more enthusiastic than a quiet nod, while Solaris remains largely immune to polished diction, gallantry, and carefully timed displays of competence. Beneath that ridiculous contest is genuine trust. Aerowin would follow Solaris into danger again, though he would strongly prefer everyone acknowledge how elegantly he did it.
ㅤ  Nye Billion  ㅤTrusted Friend / Medic / Fellow SurvivorurlNye is one of the people Aerowin finds almost impossible to manage socially, largely because the doctor sees through his cultivated sophistication and simply does not care. Aerowin can deliver the most beautifully constructed explanation imaginable for why he does not require medical attention and Nye will respond by telling him to sit down. This infuriates him. It also reassures him more than he admits. Aerowin trusts Nye completely with Devlin’s care, a privilege earned through years of respecting both brothers’ autonomy and never treating Devlin like an interesting specimen.
ㅤ  Devlin Ward  ㅤYounger Half-Brother / FamilyurlDevlin is the oldest loyalty Aerowin possesses. Aerowin spent years protecting his younger half-brother from handlers, buyers, researchers, and anyone else who regarded him as a failed experiment rather than a person, and that protectiveness has never truly switched off. He can be overbearing, manipulative, and convinced he knows what is best for Devlin, which is unfortunate because Devlin is perhaps the least manipulable person Aerowin has ever met. They argue, insult one another affectionately, and expose each other’s worst habits with surgical precision. None of it changes the central fact that Aerowin would choose Devlin again without hesitation.
ㅤ  Sky Cotton  ㅤFriend / Sanctuary Colleague / Fellow SurvivorurlAerowin admires Sky’s competence and the quiet authority she has built through sanctuary work, though he occasionally wishes she were slightly easier to impress. Sky tends to judge people by whether they actually followed through rather than how elegantly they announced their intentions, making her a useful corrective to Aerowin’s fondness for presentation. He frequently works with her when escorting newcomers, arranging transport, or connecting people to Veyrport resources. Aerowin handles doors and introductions beautifully; Sky makes certain nobody gets lost once they are through them.
ㅤ  Tavi Thorn  ㅤFriend / Protective Older-Brother Figure / Fellow SurvivorurlAerowin has a pronounced soft spot for Tavi and has happily accepted the role of gallant older protector whenever the opportunity presents itself. Unlike Solaris, he has no objection whatsoever to being admired, so Tavi’s enthusiastic praise is generally welcomed with suspicious grace. Aerowin encourages his independence and takes his opinions seriously, but the memory of fourteen-year-old Tavi on the Old Red Road makes it difficult for him not to hover when danger appears. Tavi has also learned that praising Aerowin’s heroics is an extremely effective way to get favors, a discovery Aerowin would prefer everyone describe as appreciation rather than exploitation.

Pink hair, bright blue eyes, soft flying-squirrel ears, and a massive fluffy tail give him the cotton-candy appearance that inspired his name, while his gliding membranes become especially striking when fully extended. Old restraint scars and smaller marks from climbing and escape remain visible beneath the softer features. Sky favors comfortable clothing that allows full movement and leaves room for his membranes and tail, often accessorized with practical pouches for notes, keys, records, or whatever he has decided absolutely needs to be carried today. A red ribbon marks him as one of the Twenty, usually standing out vividly against his pastel coloring.

brief biography

Sky Cotton was born in Mesquite Reach and spent the early part of his life inside the same systems of captivity and ownership that shaped the rest of the Red Ribbon Twenty. Small, agile, observant, and difficult to keep contained, Sky learned to pay attention to routes, names, schedules, and the little details other people overlooked. His flying-squirrel traits made him especially good at climbing, slipping through tight spaces, and moving above ground level, but his real talent was memory. Sky remembered people. He remembered what they were called, where they had been taken, who had disappeared, and which details others preferred to forget. Even before freedom, names mattered to him because he understood how easily a person could be erased once the records stopped treating them as one. When Solaris’s rebellion created an opening to escape, Sky joined the group that became the Red Ribbon Twenty and traveled the full length of the Old Red Road toward Veyrhalden. During the journey he became one of the people who kept track of who was still with them, where people had gone, and what information could not be allowed to disappear in the chaos. Reaching Veyrport did not end that responsibility. Some of the Twenty remained, others eventually left to search for family or build lives elsewhere, and Sky began maintaining a ledger so none of them would simply vanish from history. That work gradually expanded to include newly arrived sanctuary seekers, chosen names, safe destinations, aliases, contacts, and the fragments of identity necessary to help someone disappear from an owner without disappearing from the people who cared about them.Today, Sky works as a records keeper, identity archivist, and ghosting specialist in Veyrport, helping sanctuary arrivals build lives that cannot easily be traced backward. He treats the work with almost frightening precision, but absolutely refuses to let that seriousness consume the rest of him. Off duty, Sky is energetic, affectionate, relentlessly playful, and notorious for climbing things he could simply walk around, gliding into conversations uninvited, and pouncing on Tavi whenever the younger ferret looks particularly grumpy. His soft pink coloring earned him a name that suits him almost absurdly well, a streak of cotton candy through the Veyrport sky with a red survivor’s ribbon tied into his enormous tail. Sky knows better than most how much history can hurt. He also knows surviving it is allowed to be fun.

BONDS
ㅤ  Solaris Devrillo  ㅤTrusted Friend / Fellow Survivor / Red Ribbon TwentyurlSky trusts Solaris deeply and understands better than most why Sol hates being turned into a legend. He remembers the escape as a collective effort, but he also remembers exactly who kept choosing the next road when nobody else knew where to go. Unlike Tavi, Sky does not hero-worship Solaris, though he absolutely enjoys watching Tavi do it because Sol’s discomfort is extremely funny. He is one of the few people who can tease Solaris without immediately backing down, and he quietly keeps track of the details Sol would rather forget about himself, including the fact that survival did not end at the border.
ㅤ  Nye Billion  ㅤClose Friend / Fellow Survivor / Sanctuary PartnerurlSky and Nye work together naturally because their responsibilities overlap at the point where survival becomes a life. Nye makes sure people are physically stable; Sky makes sure their names, identities, destinations, and chosen records remain intact. Sky trusts Nye enough to let the teasing drop when something is actually serious, and Nye is one of the few people who can convince him to stop working when he has been staring at ledgers for too long. Their friendship is steady, affectionate, and full of the kind of familiarity that comes from having watched each other carry impossible responsibilities without ever pretending those responsibilities were easy.
ㅤ  Devlin Ward  ㅤFriend / Fellow Survivor / Red Ribbon TwentyurlSky likes Devlin enormously because Devlin is almost impossible to embarrass, which makes him both a challenge and a delight. He teases him, steals things off his person, appears from improbable heights, and occasionally attempts aerial surprise attacks that usually end with Devlin catching him mid-pounce and laughing about it. Beneath the chaos, Sky takes Devlin’s history very seriously and is careful with any records connected to the breeding program that created him. He refuses to let anyone reduce Devlin to a project number, failed experiment, or lineage note when Devlin himself has already decided who he is.
ㅤ  Aerowin Ward  ㅤFriend / Fellow Survivor / Sanctuary ColleagueurlSky finds Aerowin fascinating because Aerowin works very hard to appear effortlessly impressive, and Sky notices every single seam in the performance. He likes him genuinely, admires his competence, and also considers puncturing his princely dignity an important public service. Aerowin’s polished persuasion rarely works on Sky without Sky realizing exactly what is happening, which turns many conversations into quiet contests of charm versus memory. Sky will still back Aerowin when it matters, especially where Devlin or sanctuary arrivals are concerned, but he is absolutely the person most likely to ask afterward whether the dramatic entrance was strictly necessary.
ㅤ  Tavi Thorn  ㅤBest Friend / Favorite Target / Fellow SurvivorurlTavi is Sky’s favorite person to annoy, largely because every reaction is spectacular. Sky pounces on him, steals small objects, drops from ledges without warning, perches where Tavi cannot reach him, and generally treats every attempt at mysterious brooding as a personal challenge. Tavi responds with threats, swearing, and promises of revenge, which Sky interprets as continued consent to the game unless Tavi is genuinely upset. Underneath all the chaos, Sky is fiercely protective of him. He remembers the fourteen-year-old lookout from the Old Red Road and wants the eighteen-year-old Tavi to have enough ordinary, ridiculous moments that survival stops being the only thing defining him.

personality   Tavi is prickly, defensive, fiercely loyal, and almost aggressively tsundere with anyone he actually cares about. Affection embarrasses him, gratitude makes him suspicious, and his preferred response to being worried over is usually some variation of I’m fine delivered while visibly not being fine. He badly wants to be seen as capable, independent, and difficult to read, copying some of Solaris’s quiet mannerisms without realizing that Solaris is genuinely private while Tavi is mostly performing aloofness at maximum volume. He is reckless, competitive, quick to anger, and prone to picking fights simply because backing down feels worse. The glaring exception to nearly all of this is Solaris. Tavi idolizes him shamelessly, preens under even the smallest scrap of praise, and becomes painfully obvious whenever Sol tells him he did something well. Sky has noticed. This has made Tavi’s life considerably worse.

appearance   Tavi stands 5'5" with a slim, wiry build made for sprinting, climbing, squeezing through tight spaces, and escaping situations he probably should not have entered in the first place. Sandy-brown hair falls around hazel-green eyes and expressive ferret ears, while a long pale-brown tail tends to betray agitation or excitement before his carefully practiced expression does. Old collar scarring remains visible at his neck alongside smaller marks from the Old Red Road and the years afterward. Tavi dresses in dark fitted layers, leather, belts, boots, and practical runner gear, deliberately borrowing some of Solaris’s visual language without ever quite achieving the same intimidating stillness. His red survivor ribbon is worn prominently, and he carries himself with the determined swagger of someone who wants the world to understand that he is absolutely, definitely, unquestionably not a kid anymore.

brief biography

Tavi Thorn was born in Mesquite Reach and spent his childhood under captivity before Solaris’s rebellion gave him a chance to run. He was only fourteen when he joined the group that would become the Red Ribbon Twenty, young enough that the others still remember exactly how small he looked beside them and old enough to understand that failure meant being taken back. Tavi made himself useful as a lookout, slipping through tight spaces, climbing ahead, listening for movement, and carrying warnings between the adults whenever the road demanded speed more than strength. He hated being treated like a child even then, partly because being useful felt like the only proof he had that he deserved to keep going with them. The Old Red Road became the dividing line in Tavi’s life. He followed Solaris with absolute faith, watching Sol choose routes, take risks, and keep moving when nobody else knew what came next. That admiration hardened into hero worship long before they reached Veyrhalden, something Solaris has never been comfortable with and Tavi has never successfully stopped doing. By the time the Twenty crossed into Veyrport, Tavi had survived enough to feel older than fourteen and still had almost no idea what being safe was supposed to look like. The years afterward have been spent learning the difference between danger and freedom, while stubbornly insisting to anyone who worries about him that he already knows. Now eighteen, Tavi works as a runner, lookout, and message courier around Veyrport, turning the skills he learned during escape into work he actually chose. He is fast, capable, reckless, and currently deep in a phase where he believes mysterious people are cool and therefore being aloof, rude, and dramatically difficult must also be cool. Around most people, affection gets buried under insults, eye rolls, and claims that he was “going to do that anyway.” Around Solaris, the entire act collapses embarrassingly fast; one word of praise is enough to leave Tavi visibly preening while everyone else tries not to laugh. He wants badly to prove he is no longer the fourteen-year-old who needed saving. What he is slowly learning is that growing up does not require pretending that being saved never mattered.

BONDS
ㅤ  Solaris Devrillo  ㅤHero / Mentor / Fellow SurvivorurlTavi idolizes Solaris with an intensity he would deny under oath if anyone except Solaris asked about it. He was fourteen when the Red Ribbon Twenty escaped, and Sol became the person Tavi associated most strongly with survival, direction, and the possibility of freedom. Tavi copies some of Solaris’s mannerisms, dresses with similar visual cues, and tries very hard to cultivate the same mysterious aura, usually with considerably less success. Around everyone else he is prickly and defensive, but a single word of praise from Solaris is enough to leave him visibly preening. Solaris hates being treated like a hero; Tavi remains completely unconvinced that this is his problem.
ㅤ  Nye Billion  ㅤTrusted Friend / Medic / Older-Brother FigureurlNye has been fussing over Tavi since the Old Red Road, which means Tavi has spent years insisting he does not require fussing. Nye remembers the exhausted fourteen-year-old beneath the current leather jacket and attitude, something Tavi finds deeply offensive whenever it results in food being pushed into his hands or an injury being inspected. Despite all the complaining, Tavi trusts Nye completely and will eventually obey the doctor voice after making the process as difficult as possible. Nye is also one of the few people Tavi will seek out when something is actually wrong, though he prefers to pretend the encounter happened accidentally.
ㅤ  Devlin Ward  ㅤFriend / Older-Brother Figure / Fellow SurvivorurlDevlin treats Tavi like a younger brother who desperately needs to experience all the stupid, ordinary things captivity nearly stole from him. He encourages questionable fun, bad decisions within survivable limits, staying out late, trying new things, and occasionally being eighteen instead of acting like a miniature hardened operative. Tavi complains constantly about Devlin’s teasing and supposed irresponsibility, while also seeking him out whenever he wants advice he knows Nye would disapprove of. Devlin additionally considers encouraging Tavi’s Solaris worship an important recreational activity.
ㅤ  Aerowin Ward  ㅤFriend / Protective Older-Brother FigureurlAerowin’s gallant attention works embarrassingly well on Tavi, especially because Aerowin has no objection whatsoever to being admired in return. Tavi enjoys being treated as capable and important rather than merely young, and Aerowin knows exactly how to offer that validation while still quietly hovering whenever danger appears. Their relationship can become mutually enabling in ridiculous ways: Aerowin gets praise, Tavi gets favors, and both pretend this arrangement developed naturally. Tavi does, however, recognize when Aerowin is trying to steer him somewhere and takes enormous pride in occasionally refusing purely to prove that he noticed.
ㅤ  Sky Cotton  ㅤFriend / Favorite Irritation / Fellow SurvivorurlSky is Tavi’s natural enemy in the highly specific sense that he knows exactly how to annoy him and possesses the mobility required to escape retaliation. He pounces on Tavi, steals things, drops into conversations without warning, and generally treats the younger ferret’s brooding as an invitation rather than a warning. Tavi reacts with threats, insults, and increasingly creative promises of revenge, which only encourages Sky further. Beneath the endless antagonism is genuine affection; Sky knows when Tavi is actually upset rather than theatrically grumpy, and Tavi would become frighteningly serious if anyone else tried to hurt him.
